PLUS / MINUS WINTER

Big transformations help us better understand ourselves and our own identity. The winter of 2019-2020 ended without having properly started, and the feeling of the disappearance of the familiar world was shared by us Northern Europeans. Through Plus / Minus Winter project, we wanted to explore and remember the winter that has become a memory: skiing, snowmen, the scrunching of snow.

After the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the project took on new meanings as the sense of change now unites us all globally.

The project invited participants to document the history of change with the help of photographs in the spring of 2020. Participants sent pairs of pictures via the Plus / Minus -Winter website, for which they selected pictures from the Picture Collections of the Finnish Heritage Agency as well as their own photographs. The photographs and the stories behind them were put on display in the exhibition gallery of the Plus / Minus Winter website.

Learn more about the project and the photographs and stories on the Plus / Minus Winter website (in Finnish/Russian).
